Ever notice how your health and your hustle are connected?

On this episode of The Audacious Founder Podcast, I sat down with Dr. Sienna Olsen—a chiropractor, sports medicine specialist, and founder of Slow Rx—to talk about what it really takes to build strength, energy, and longevity without slipping into obsession or extremes.

I met Sienna at the Powerhouse Women event in Arizona, and I knew instantly I had to bring her to you. She’s got over a decade of clinical and coaching experience (even though she looks like she’s 23!), blending science and soul to help ambitious women reclaim confidence and self-trust.

From Disordered Eating to True Strength

Sienna’s journey started young. As a teen athlete, she fell into disordered eating and the toxic “calories in, calories out” mindset that’s still preached today. Later, she competed in bodybuilding, but the rigid restrictions led to binge cycles, burnout, and eventually a wake-up call—heart palpitations and the realization that she was sabotaging her health.

That moment sparked her shift: away from punishment, obsession, and extremes… and toward fueling, healing, and sustainable strength.

Food as Fuel (Not Reward or Punishment)

We talked about how so many of us—especially women—use food as a way to punish ourselves after mistakes, or as a “treat” when we’ve had a hard day. Sienna reframes food as fuel and connection—a tool to support our bodies, our energy, and even our relationships.

“You’re not a dog. You don’t need to earn your food with punishment or reward. Food is simply fuel—and joy.” – Dr. Sienna Olsen

That hit me hard, because as entrepreneurs, we often treat food, money, and even rest in the same way: either withholding it, or indulging recklessly. The real power comes when we find balance, flexibility, and intention.

Hormones, Energy, and Entrepreneurship

Sienna also shared how hormones play a massive role in mood, energy, focus, and resilience. If you’re feeling brain foggy, burned out, or on a constant emotional rollercoaster, it might not be “just stress”—your hormones could be out of balance. And that imbalance? It directly impacts how we show up in business.

“A strong metabolism and balanced hormones give you the clarity, confidence, and stamina to lead—not just survive.” – Dr. Sienna Olsen

Longevity Over Quick Fixes

Instead of obsessing over calorie deficits or chasing quick results, Sienna teaches the practice of reverse dieting, macronutrient balance, and strength-building. Her approach: train your metabolism, build muscle, and create a foundation for lifelong health—because when your body thrives, your business does too.

Hormones, Protein, and Pain: Dr. Sienna Olsen on Fueling Women for Strength and Longevity

Ever wonder why you feel exhausted, ravenous, or foggy—even when you’re “doing everything right”?

In my conversation with Dr. Sienna Olsen—a chiropractor, sports medicine specialist, and founder of Slow Rx—we dug into how hormones, protein, and movement impact not just our bodies but also our energy, mood, and business.

The Hormone Loop: Brain Fog, Crashes, and Cortisol

Hormones are constantly influencing how you feel. Progesterone, for example, plays a role in brain fog and sleep quality. When insulin resistance shows up, it can lead to blood sugar dysregulation, creating sudden hunger crashes where you feel ravenous—even if you ate an hour ago.

Add cortisol (the stress hormone) to the mix, and it can become a negative feedback loop:

  • Stress raises cortisol.

  • Cortisol feeds insulin resistance.

  • Insulin resistance increases cravings and fatigue.

  • Muscle begins to break down.

  • Less muscle means more insulin resistance.

This cycle keeps women stuck in exhaustion, cravings, and sleeplessness—especially those juggling business and life stress.

Why Protein is a Game-Changer

Here’s the truth: many of these hormone and energy struggles can be mitigated by building muscle. And muscle requires two things—protein and resistance training.

But let’s be real: protein isn’t easy to get enough of. Most women fall short because it’s easier to grab carbs and fats for instant gratification. Dr. Sienna recommends front-loading protein:

“If you start your day with 30–40 grams of protein, it sets you up to regulate blood sugar, reduce crashes, and keep cravings at bay.”

She encourages her clients to:

  • Eat protein before coffee and workouts.

  • Slam a protein shake post-workout.

  • Spread protein across meals to hit 100+ grams daily.

This not only builds muscle but also stabilizes energy, mood, and focus throughout the day.

Intermittent Fasting: Friend or Foe?

Fasting can feel “productive,” but for women—especially as we age—it often backfires. Without steady protein intake, estrogen and testosterone decline accelerates muscle loss, making it harder to stay strong, resilient, and sharp.

The takeaway? Intermittent fasting has its place, but most women benefit more from consistent fuel than from skipping meals.

Pain, Identity, and the Business Impact

Dr. Sienna also sees how pain becomes an identity for so many people. Chronic back pain, sciatica, or injuries don’t just affect movement—they shape personality, relationships, and even careers.

“Your pain becomes you. You stop traveling, stop socializing, and business suffers. It snowballs into weight gain, depression, or reliance on quick dopamine fixes like food, alcohol, or even painkillers.”

Her solution: combine chiropractic care with strength training, nutrition, and holistic modalities like massage, acupuncture, and anti-inflammatory diets. The goal isn’t just temporary relief—it’s resilience, so flare-ups don’t derail your life.

The Bigger Picture: Strong Women, Strong Businesses

Dr. Sienna’s mission is bigger than health—it’s about empowerment. When women feel strong in their bodies, they step into their power in business and leadership.

“When you remind women of the power they already have within themselves, everything changes. Strong women build strong businesses.”

Her next audacious goal? Scaling Slow Rx into group coaching programs where women can grow their health, confidence, and businesses—together.

Final Thought

Your body is your greatest business asset. When you fuel with protein, build muscle, and protect your hormone health, you don’t just prevent burnout—you unlock the energy, confidence, and resilience to lead boldly. Strong women really do build strong businesses.
